New lock at Boston

New lock at Boston

Postby Dick on Tue Jul 22, 2008 12:08 pm

For those of you who might be interested,

Construction work is now well underway to provide a new tidal lock where the South Forty Foot Drain meets the River Witham at Boston.

This lock is the first major step towards realisation of the Fens Waterways Link. The Fens Waterways Link promises to be one of the most significant waterway developments in recent years. It will connect the Rivers Witham, Glen, Welland, Nene and Ouse and will open up 240 km of waterways creating a new circular waterway for recreation, tourism and the environment.

A webcam has now been installed so you can watch the progress of work on the new lock at Boston. It only refreshes every 5 minutes, but regular visits allow you to see the progress of the work. It will save some of you having to pop out into the Wash and back again when coming to visit Boston from the Fens.
