What do you do when you are not boating?

Ok what do you do when not on the river?

Job?
Hobbies?

I currently am a full time mum, and general dogsbody for Tom and the business (www.redeng.co.uk) although labelled as company secretary!
Also a distibutor for Ecoflow PLC - they do magnetic braclets and household and ecofriendly items - please ask for a brochure if interested.

My career/profession/qualification is a Veterinary Nurse, currently not a listed nurse but will relist when i return to work.
My last employer was Vale Vets Ltd in Dursley Gloucester dealing with small animal first opinion cases and referals in cardiology, medicine, soft tissue surgery, oncology, opthamology, dermatology and Exotics.
VERY varied and good fun, but long hours and on calls.

Hobbies: Music, i am a Trumpeter and also dabble on the Euphonium. I love drawing but rarely have the time these days. Listening to music, photography, cycling, and of course boats!! Used to love speeding up and down the river in my little inflatable dingy, but have lost my confidence on the water over the last few yrs.

Full-time dad and carer for my 6 year old autistic son and 1 year old nt son.

Sometime cabinet maker and wooden boat builder at weekends on top of restoring the house. Projects include restoring clinker sailing dinghy, plywood runabout, building carvel tender and canvas canoe.

I shall probably go back to work when youngest starts school, if I can find the time.

we are RETIRED, and i am enjoying every minute.

out of season we have days out to all sorts of places, markets, auctions, and various places of interest.

in the season we spend as much time as possible afloat.

Gosh, where to start! Well, I am employed as a Technical Specialist, a grand name for a boring job!!! I am an engineer by trade, a proper, indentured, fully paid up, certificated mechanical engineer with various certifications in electrical installation and maintenance. (A registered electrician as well, in other words, although I don't practice).

I hate being idle, always doing something, whether it's to the boat or someones car, or bike or whatever, and I mend things, anything! I find it difficult to relax, even when on holiday. It's my view that we are on this earth for such a short time it seems a waste not to learn as much as possible about everything in order to be able to help those who are not always able to do things for themselves.

I enjoy photography, and have over 30,000 pictures, digital and celluloid, and have had images published in the press. It is said that each of us has a speciality, something that we excel at, a gift. I have no idea what mine is, I guess I'm still trying to find it, which is why I'm always doing stuff!!

I'm married with 4 kids (one of each!) the youngest of which is off to uni this year, all being well. (Of the other 3, one is doing his Masters, one's been at work since he left school, and one has finished uni and got a job (relevant to her degree, no less. Amazing)

When at work, I do IT type stuff for a mid size PLC at one of their offices here in Leicester.

When at home I spend far too much time surfing on the internet, I also read, and actively enjoy not watching the telly.

I've been married for 4 years, and have no kids. And that's the way it's going to stay.

I work as a Powder coater and have worked for the same company for over 22 years
I'm currently single and looking again
I have no children (I thought I did but I haven't ,Thats another story  )
Apart from boating I like to take the odd picture as you may have noticed
I dabble now and then in urban exploration (keeps the past alive)
Cycling (not often enough)
Real ale (when you get a taste for it :D )
and messing about on my PC.

Just try to struggle through life as best I can :) I suppose is the most apt way to explain briefly.

Best way is to read my website. Start with Bikes, then Stock Cars, Jessie, Barney and Boating.

I try to be helpful and friendly, which is usually, although not always reciprocated, and occasionally abused.

I drive a ready mix concrete lorry for a small local firm. Dont go far anymore, in fact if there's no deliveries I go home to the boat, it's only a mile away. My wife is a civil servant and works via email from the boat.

Married, one daughter who's married with a darling of a daughter of her own. Our grandaughter is two and stays with us every few weeks, bliss? not quite...she's into everything.

My other hobby may seem a little morbid to some people. I research WW1 casualties, mainly from my hometown near Manchester. This involves trips over to France and Belgium a couple of times a year and now we have many friends over there.

The big idea six years ago when we first planned to build our present boat, was to eventually take it over the channel and use it on the continental system. However now with the birth of the above grandaughter and the loss of a parent, this idea is on hold.

Just a thoght...when we had a narrowboat as a weekend/holiday retreat, it really was that. We couldn't wait to get up to the boat at weekend. After moving onto Travis it didn't take too long to realise we were missing something...it was that anticipation of the coming friday night when we used to shoot off to the boat. It took a while to realise that we are on one long holiday!

Regards, Andy
