Inflatable Dinghy Wanted

Inflatable Dinghy Wanted

Postby gulliver7952 on Thu Jan 10, 2008 9:13 pm

After last Julys floods I have been toying with the idea of getting an Inflatable Dinghy.
With or without Outboard.
Just in case I need to get to the boat in a hurry if the river floods bigtime again. Or to be used for messing about on the river.
I need one that will fit in the boot of the car when deflated.
Not looking for a Rolls Royce or plastic seaside type. Just something that is usable when required.

Regards
Steve

Well this one could be. Won't take an outboard (I think) but I got a similar type of thing cost double a few years ago, but folds to a large suitcase, and can be carried and stored easily. Strong enough to carry 2 people safely.

I would take great care going into flooded rivers or canals though. Chap at Torksey drowned when he fell out. I was told a contributary factor was he was wearing chest waders, that were full of air, and held his head under.......however apparently if you fall over wearing waders, the thing to do is to just lie on your back, until you float to the side, and shallow water, where you should be able to stand up.

But I've used mine on numerous occasions for all sorts.......especially useful if you are somewhere that requires getting to the hull of the boat. I've used it to get stuff off the prop for instance. And was pleased to have it with me regarding the ice incident, which required me to work at almost water level.

I would not advise using the boat that malcom has linked to in any flood. there is no way you could row effectivly against the current.

I cant find a link at the moment, i will try and put on up later.

That's a beach toy, I might use it in a river for a bit of fun, but not in anger. a much sturdier inflatable is requirer,

do a search on ebay for tender. I'll have a look round the web when I get home

Is it? Difficult to tell from the photo. Mine isn't ........ have seen several used as tenders hanging on the back of boats.

I saw this one last night on Ebay, seems a good price.
After all the rain we have had today (23mm has fallen in Glos today so far), may need one sooner than later. Although the rain has now turned to SNOW!!!! (Was it forecast???)
