hi all, just a simple question. On the 28 Sept we are going on our very first boating holiday, so we know little to nothing about the workings on the craft. The wife has asked about the heating does it only work while the engine is running, we will be hiring a princess craft from Richardsons in Stalham on the broads. Also we will be happy to hear about any other tips for new comers to boating, thank you

Hi Granmist, and welcome to the forum. Yes your boats heating should be able to work all the time, although you may find it a little noisy during the night if its the 'blown air' type, and some heating systems run with a faint tapping sound which is quite normal. I would recommend switching it off before bed in order not only to have a quieter nights sleep, but to cut down on the amount of onboard condensation it can create as well. Once in bed, even on a cold night its usually quite warm and cosy, although it shouldnt be too bad at this time of year tempreture wise. One piece of kit that you may wish to bring with you is a good torch and a supply of batteries, the footpaths at night are often unlit and returning to your boat after dark can be a bit tricky without one in some areas.

We are down on the Broads during the same week as you, mainly around the northern river area, and are experianced boat handlers, so please feel free to PM me if you need any further help or advice, we might even see you around one of the nice little Broadland pubs in the evening.
