The Broads

The Broads

Postby Adam on Sun Oct 28, 2007 8:04 pm

I have hired several times on the Norfolk Broads. The water seems cleaner than some canals and rivers? The water also seems warmer (been in twice  ). The Norfolk Broads surprise me in that the tidal waters are not so much restricted as they are coming off the canal system. I like the area around Great Yarmouth where you come downstream on a river then to the left is the sea with a sign saying "No hire craft beyond this point" and you turn right into a big open area with a channel marked. The first time we did that section of the broads we got the boat stuck on a "Hidden stake" .

What do you guys think about the broads?
Cheers Adam

hiya

well as you know i am a regular on the broads as i have my boat moored there.
the whole of the area facinates me although i have my own favorite spots.
the river ant up to stalham and the stretch of river from wroxham to coltishall,
on the north side, brundall and bramerton, and then beccles to gelderston
on the south side
i haven't seen much this season without a boat but will be making up
for it next year
in early may this year we hired a narrowboat from norbury junction
and went as far as stourport-on-severn and up to wolverhampton and a good time
was had by all
the year before we hired from rose at stretton-under-fosse and went as far
as banbury and another great week
are well!! roll on the spring

hi all

things are getting back to somewhere near normal on the broads after the tide surge a
couple of weeks ago.
the coastal places obviously took the brunt of the flooding which was not quite as bad as expected,
although the water levels were still very high. the areas around the riverside in yarmouth flooded as did
parts of lowestoft and oulton broad.
it took another couple of days before the flood waters reached the inland sections of the system and again
a lot of local flooding, but fortunately no reports of heavy damage to any boats
it was a worrying time for owners of property and boats.
