Meadow Lane Lock Closed.

Meadow Lane Lock Closed.

Postby BigRoj on Sun Nov 04, 2007 3:21 pm

From the 5th November 'til 18th November, Meadow lane lock will be closed for replacement of the bottom lock gates, at last.
So there could be a few people stranded downstream on the Trent for a couple of weeks. There are a lot of boats on the river today, a fair few who have come down the Nottingham canal.

Castle lock was done last winter Simon. I didn't notice yesterday that they were leaking too much, certainly not as bad as last year.
I did notice though at Meadow Lane that the brickwork was leaking as well as the gates.

I thought the gap between the bottom gates was still pretty bad last time I came through doesn't stop the chav's fishing under the bridge though :?
Talking of Meadow lane lock have you ever seen the Lock Keeper there ever doing any lock keeping ?

The lock keeper at Meadow Lane.............hmmm, good one that!!!

Yes, I have had dealings, if you'd call it that, with him. He only works monday to friday, and have met him when penning through on a friday afternoon. I think it's one of the oldtime jobs he has, a throwback to when there was a lot of commercial traffic through the system. He lives in the lock house there.
Very helpful when he's there, doing the paddles, closing gates etc.

Its strange , I have seen him help a boat in front of me through the lock then he promptly disappears
when its my turn even though I'm single crewing ?

Perhaps BW management don't know he exists , because I doubt they'd find Meadow Lane lock, with none of them knowing what a boat looks like ! :?
