Mushrooms anyone?

Been away for a week to Greece, and when I got back and checked the boat over, I found it's been misbehaving and started growing it's own Funghi!!

Must say, I was tempted to take the things home and put them under the grill with some garlic butter and Dolcelatte!!!

However, the downside is the fungus is growing from one of the transom well drain holes, and in turn from the transom itself. When I cleared it all out, putting a finger into the drain hole revealed it to be spongy and soft, and bits of the wood came out.
So it's a dry out job, engine off and hack away at the affected bit to see how bad it is. With the transom being the most crucial bit on an outboard type boat, it has to be done properly to keep the structural integrity of the boat perfect.

Hey-ho, such is life!!!

Update on this, ahem, occurence! Eventually got the boat out the water on Monday and parked up undercover. Had a quick look to see what special tools I might need and made them at work that afternoon. Started to dig out the rot and discovered that Viking don't use 30mm ply for the transon, instead they use 13mm, just as a former to build up layers of glass fibre. So I dug out as much nasty stuff as was possible and treated the remaining with a preservative.
I also drilled and tapped an eighth BSP hole 6 in down the transom and connected a vacuum pump to it to draw any more water out, and to let it drain. There wasn't any free water in it, thankfully.
I'm now letting it dry in the air and come the weekend I shall be injecting resin to fill the void left by the rotten wood.

Launched it last Wednesday and took it back to the marina today, now that Meadow Lane lock is open again.
